Even though a deep cleanup by professionals is certainly an investment in prolonging your floor’s life, you also might be wondering how much it is going to. The cost of tile and grout cleaning differs wildly, however, there are several aspects impacting the final cost.

Aspects impacting Tile and Grout Cleaning Cost

The following are some aspects of tile and grout cleaning:

1. Area Of Your Tiled area

One of the most significant factors in deciding the total cost you are going to pay for your tile cleaning is the area. The bigger the area, the more the time and labor, meaning higher the costs. Overall, tile and grout cleaning costs from $1 to $3 per square foot.

2. Size Of Your Tiles

In addition to the area to be cleaned, the size of your tiles also matters in regard to determining costs. That’s because areas with larger tiles have less grout and are, therefore, easier to clean in comparison to those that have small tiles with additional grout lines.

Typically, when you have large areas with small tiles to clean, they might cost you more because of the added time, labor, and resources.

3. Type Of Cleaning Technique

Subject to the condition and requirements of your tiles and grout, the technique to clean them can differ. And based on the amount of effort and resources that go behind that technique, it can impact the final cost. The 2 most common techniques comprise manual cleaning and steam cleaning.

If they favor to steam clean your tiles and grout, they are going to use steam-based cleaning that could cost you about $1 to $4 per square foot.

For manual cleaning, they are going to hand scour your tiles and grout with cleaning resources. This could cost you about $0.5 to $5 per sq ft.

4. Amount Of Time Taken

According to what technique is used and the amount of area is to be cleaned; some cleaners could charge by an hourly basis. The more time it takes, the more work and labor they are going to require, which impacts the cost.

Normally, cleaning tile and grout costs about $30 to $50 for each hour, with a fixed rate at a minimum of $100.

5. Kind Of Your Tiles

Even though the significant aspects that determine the cleaning cost are area and amount of time, the kind of tiles your flooring has is also going to be a deciding factor.

Some kinds of tiles such as porcelain or ceramic are non-porous and are better at resisting the soaking up of dirt. Making them clean easier, which can somewhat be more budget friendly.

Whereas tiles such as natural stone, granite, or some unsealed, porous surfaces can soak in dirt fast. Making them a little more challenging to clean which can increase the total cost.

6. Additional Aspects

The following are some additional aspects of tile and grout cleaning:

Maintenance

Another aspect that can impact on the cost is to what extent you maintain your tiled flooring. When your tiles are not well-maintained and have not been cleaned for a long time, they will be dirtier and take more work to clean. However, when you clean your tiles and grout regularly, the final cost is going to be less.

Additional Sealing

Aside from cleaning, if there are any additional services associated with your tiles and grout, they can also add up to the final cost. For instance, tile and grout cleaning when added with sealing could cost you up to $5 per square foot.

Repair or Restoration

Furthermore, if your tiles are damaged and require repair, that could be an additional charge of $5 to $40 per square foot. With grout repairs or restoration, the cost range could be $1 to $25 per square foot, subject to the degree of damage.

The most significant cost aspects are the size of the area you require to be cleaned and the tiles size in the space.

When you have small-scale tiles, each square foot of tiled area is going to have additional grout lines, so costs could be twice or triple as the size of the decreases.

Add around $2.50 to $6 to the total cost if you additionally require your grout to be repaired or grout sealing along with cleaning services.

It’s vital to keep your homes tile clean—not only to retain its appearance but also for sanitary reasons. At the very least, you should clean your grout at a minimum once annually to keep it white. Hiring a tile cleaning service to clean your tile and grout could cost around $284 and $676, with the US median cost of around $479.

Tile and Grout Cleaning Cost Aspects

The following are some cost aspects of tile and grout cleaning:

Size of Room

It costs anywhere from $0.50 to $3 per square foot to get your tile and grout cleaned, with a minimum of$100 to $200. These costs usually include labor and material, so there is no need to be concerned about paying extra.

Size of Tile

The tiles size is going to influence your cleaning expenses. The smaller the tiles, the more grout the cleaning service is going to have to clean. When your cleaning service uses a manual cleaning technique and charges hourly, it is going to take them longer to clean small tiles than big ones.

Additionally, larger slab tiles require supplemental care when cleaning. Using the incorrect cleaner on a slab tile could cause damage to the whole tile, which could be expensive to replace. Your cleaning service might charge different prices based on the materials required to clean your particular tile.

Hourly Rate

Professional cleaners charge between $30 and $50 each hour for tile and grout cleaning. Don’t forget that many cleaning services have a minimum of $100 to $200, so expect to pay at a minimum of $100 to call somebody out to your home.

Tile and Grout Condition

Occasionally, life gets the better of us and we forget to remember the ins and outs. When your tiles and grout have not been cleaned in a while, your cleaner may charge an additional $100 to $200. This helps consider the added work and time it is going to take to get your tiles and grout back in good, dazzling condition.

Frequency

The ideal time to clean tile and grout is when you make an appointment for a deep cleaning, which probably be carried out at a minimum 1 to 2 times annually. This should be enough as long as you’re routinely cleaning your tiles weekly, which is going to help hinder a build-up of grime and dirt. Don’t forget, the more easy it is to clean, the reduced time your grout cleaning service is going to be need, which is going to cost you less.

Labor

You can plan to pay for your tile and grout cleaning service $0.50 to $5 each sq ft for their labor. The products they are going to use for cleaning are usually included in their labor rates.

Cost to Clean and Seal Tile and Grout Flooring

Sealing your tile and grout is going to help them last longer. Tiles need to be sealed every 3 years, and grout should be sealed following each cleaning. Grout cleaning should be carried out once or twice annually. The cost for cleaning and sealing tile and grout floors is $0.75 to $5 each sq ft.

Pros of Terrazzo

Below are some of the pros of Terrazzo tile:

Durability

Terrazzo is among the most durable flooring materials available presently. After it is sealed properly, the material is resistant to staining and water damage. It also is not going to chip away like other flooring materials. With it becoming increasingly popular of this material, builders turn to terrazzo. Terrazzo can tolerate high-traffic areas, making it a favorable product in commercial projects. Even when terrazzo is worn away over the years, it can be restored and polished to look as if it were new. When considering the ease of maintenance of terrazzo, it provides a longer-lasting product at a budget-friendly price.

Limitless Design

Terrazzo integrates granite, marble, quartz, or glass chips in an epoxy resin bonding agent, keeping aesthetic quality as known in traditional based terrazzo. Since terrazzo is made by mixing various elements together, you can select just about any design or floor for any flooring or wall project. This enables builders or designers to include conceptual decorative designs, logos, seals, and other designs throughout the terrazzo installation process.

Environmentally Friendly

Terrazzo is a worthwhile material that helps in the design of sustainable buildings. For the preservation of limited materials, terrazzo is a perfect option for other flooring choices. The material could comprise of recycled materials that have a positive effect on the wellbeing of people and their environment. Builders and designers not only search for terrazzo for its longevity and design but also its input to LEED points. Since terrazzo is groundbreaking, comprises of recycled materials, and can be manufactured locally, it can additionally play a significant role in defining the world of architecture.

Indoor and Outdoor Applications

Flooring contractors can install terrazzo in both indoors and outdoors environments. Presently installers can find this flooring material in high traffic areas like lobbies, stairways, and hallways. With the capability to resist water and stains, terrazzo is also a valuable item for countertops, bathrooms, showers, and swimming pools. So if you go with a thin-set epoxy for indoor uses or arcadian terrazzo for outdoor uses, terrazzo can meet the builder, or designer needs to fit their style.

Cons Of Terrazzo

Below are some of the cons of Terrazzo tile:

High Upfront Cost

Terrazzo is going to save you money in the long run as it is rather robust and needs few repairs. Nevertheless, the upfront cost of terrazzo is going to be higher compared to other materials. For those on a limited budget, terrazzo is most likely unfavorable for projects.

Cold Nature of Floor

One of disadvantage of terrazzo is that the surface doesn’t hold heat well throughout the colder months, making the floor feeling somewhat cold. Unless you have a heat insulator underneath the terrazzo, this could cause discomfort to those that like to walk around barefoot.

Recommended Professional Installation

Whereas some flooring kinds can be installed by homeowners, terrazzo floors can be quite complicated. One error could be expensive. It is recommend seeking a terrazzo installation contractor to do the installation.

What Is Flagstone?

This post answers the most basic question – what is flagstone?

First off, what is flagstone made of? Flagstone is an umbrella term used to encircle all metamorphic and sedimentary rock that has been split into layers. These stones are naturally split along the lineation planes of the rocks. Encircling a range of various sedimentary rocks, this terminology is used to describe the various kinds of stone laid as “flags” in patterns.

Pros and Cons of Flagstone

As with just about anything else, flagstone comes with its pros and cons. Read below to find out some of them.

Pros of Flagstone

Durable

Eco-Friendly

Versatile

Natural Aesthetic

Low Maintenance

Cons of Flagstone

Takes Skillful Installation

Costly

Stains Possible

Slippery When Wet

Uneven Surfaces

Each kind of flagstone has its characteristics, but there are some more favorable varieties, including limestone, bluestone, and sandstones. And with such a wide range of types, there are also a lot of uses for this kind of stone.

Common Flagstone Applications

Flagstone is adaptable in landscaping and construction, perfect for durable roofing and graceful flooring. They magnify outdoor areas such as footpaths, steps, and terraces, adding natural elegance. In interior design, flagstone is favorable for creating rustic fireplaces, adding both functionality and attractive charm. Their hardiness and unique texture make them a popular choice in varied applications, from garden walkways to architectural features in homes.

Additionally, with a wide scope of colors, from blues to reds, browns, and mixed diversities, homeowners can get just what they are seeking. And to make it better, flagstones are made to last, providing around fifty years of longevity with resistance to hot weather, freezing temperatures, and rainstorms.

Things to Think About When Choosing Flagstone

There are several things to think about when researching the various flagstone kinds and colors and choosing where to apply this attractive material in your design.

Prior to committing to flagstone, make sure to:

Pick a flagstone that comes in different shapes, sizes, and thicknesses to integrate your design.

Stay away from glittery flagstone, as it usually loses its sparkle over years of wear and tear.

Be mindful that bright-colored stone usually ends up being more soft than more muted, uniform tones.

Make sure that the stone has been tested in residential landscapes after a while.

Search for a stone that comes from an area near your project site to decrease shipping charges.

Verify that the stone is readily available through multiple sources for cost comparison.

In areas in which water is mineral-rich, stay away from dark-colored stones that show florescence.

What Is Saltillo Tile Made Of?

Saltillo tile is made of natural clay that is located in the norther Mexican city of Saltillo. It is a handmade kiln-fired tile, giving it a unique and rustic look. The clay gets mixed with water, molded into tiles, and then set to dry in the sun prior to being kiln fired. The kiln-firing technique results in producing a most enduring type of terracotta tile.

Why Is Saltillo Tile Known As ‘Perfectly Imperfect’?

Handmade Saltillo tile comes with imperfections. Due to the handmade nature of manufacturing, these clay tiles have imperfect, rustic features including chips, bumps, minute cracks, sporadic markings, variable color smears and swirling, lime pops, size and thickness differences, occasional animal footprints, color striping, fingerprints, etc. These are not flaws and should be expected in authentic, handmade Saltillo terracotta tiles.

After these tiles are installed, these features provide the Saltillo floor with the rustic style that homeowners wish for. Anybody who does not wish for an imperfect and rustic style floor with features like these should not buy Saltillo tile. Nevertheless, it’s unfeasible to purchase handmade Saltillo tiles lacking these rustic features.

A lot of people lay aside undesirable tiles to be used for cuts. However, be mindful of pulling out every imperfect tile in order not to run out on the project site.

Is Saltillo Tile Terracotta Tile?

This is one of the most general questions asked. Indeed! Saltillo tile is Terracotta tile. Nevertheless, not all Terracotta tiles are Saltillo tiles. Got it? Good.

What is Terracotta tile? Terracotta tiles merely refer to the tiles being made out of clay. Clay comes from a multitude of places worldwide. However, Saltillo clay is unique. Saltillo clay tiles are considered the most durable clay tiles in the world. Nevertheless, you’re fine calling it Terracotta tile. Most people do too.

When you’re in the market for Terracotta tile, always seek out Saltillo Terracotta tile so you can benefit from its characteristics of longevity!

What Is A Lime Pop & Efflorescence?

Clay (terracotta) flooring could be prone to efflorescence, and sporadic lime pops. Wipe efflorescence off unsealed tiles using V-Scrub.

What is Efflorescence?

Efflorescence is a white, powdery substance appearing on the surface of the tile, typically caused by salts and minerals such as calcium coming to the surface when moisture penetrates the tile, produces a visible white residue.

What are Lime Pops?

The terms “lime pops” usually refers to an occurrence in which small, round cavities or bumps appear on the surfaces of Saltillo tiles. Lime pops are typical in Saltillo Tile and not considered a defect.

Saltillo tile questions typically include the matter of lime pops. Lime Pops are an area of Northern Mexico’s riverbeds clay. Whereas these deposits in the clay might never expose themselves, they can in time pop, leading to a small pit in the tile. For fixing it, apply a dab of sealer over the “popped” area. This adds to the rustic attraction of genuine Mexican clay floors.

Lime pops and efflorescence are not flaws.

Where Can I Install Saltillo Tile?

Saltillo tiles can be installed indoors and surprisingly, outdoors – a classic instance are kitchen floors. Saltillo gives areas an old world feel. But is recommend for:

Residential: Backsplashes, bathroom floors, islands in kitchens, decorative walls

Commercial: Restaurants, bars, retail stores floors

Outdoor: Courtyards underneath covered areas (that are not exposed to freezing settings)

Stay away from installing Saltillo tile in colder settings, inclined floors in wet places, and shower liners.

What Are Pros And Cons Of installing Mexican Saltillo Tile?

Below are some of the factors to consider when deciding whether to use Saltillo tile:

Pros:

It’s environmentally friendly: Dissimilar to other types of tile, Saltillo is made out of pure clay from Saltillo, and water. It’s organic and eco-friendly!

Each piece is distinct: Every box of tile is going to have unique textures and color because of the hand-made process. Occasionally, if you’re fortunate, you’ll even find a little imprint from a friendly furry assistant in the tile warehouse.

It masks dirt: Because of its rustic, historical feel, and comforting tone – Saltillo tile conceals dirt and a rusty mess as well.

Inexpensive: Saltillo tile is more budget friendly than many other more contemporary tile options.

Cons:

Can be somewhat uneven: Each tile is hand-made leading to occasional size variations. This type of tile flooring is more rustic and less even than fabricated cement or marble tiles.

More difficult to install: Because of the thicker tiles and the distinctness of each tile, installation might require somebody with more skill with Saltillo tile installations.

How Do I Clean And Maintain Saltillo Tile?

Saltillo tile is a somewhat easy tile when it comes to routine maintenance. Basically, these tiles have been used for hundreds of years throughout Mexico.

A typical soap and water combination for mopping is perfect. A vacuum cleaner is going to help keep dust and dirt out of the larger-than-typical grout joints.

If it’s been a few years – it’s worth a look to see if you should reseal your Saltillo tiles.

These rocks are easily divided on the bedding layers and are known as flagstones. Nevertheless, for a slate to form, subsequent extreme geological forces related to mountain building are required, throughout which the minerals present in the initial mudstone are metamorphosed.

Many minerals, like quartz grains, are stretched and flattened, whereas clay minerals are recrystallized as plate-like minerals: chlorite and white mica. The quartz minerals provide the slate strength and longevity, whereas the plate-like minerals create cleavage planes, which do not coincide to the bedding planes, but which enables the rock to be divided into much thinner slabs suitable for roofing material. Variations in the composition of the initial mudstone and the level of metamorphism impacted the quality of the slates therefore produced.

Uses of Slate

Slate has a history as a building material. Slate is a natural, visually appealing stone. Its durability and excellent hardiness make it one of the most enduring and adaptable building materials.

The beauty of slate arises in the fact that it is a natural resource that requires little modification from its natural form and provides an enduring, contaminant resistant, fireproof, waterproof building material with a warmness and elegance which places it in a league of its own.

Slate is Primarily Used For:

Roofing: A lot of of the mined slate is modified for use as roofing material. The low rate of water absorption (less than .04 percent) in addition to its great longevity make this material one of the most valued products for roofing.

Facade covering

Flooring: Both inside and outside flooring.

Decorative entirety: garden decoration, wall covering.

Other uses: countertops, tables, plates for eateries…

What Is Tile Flooring?

Tile flooring is umbrella wording used to designate any resilient flooring made of tiles, in which the spaces between the tiles have been packed with grout. Usually, tile flooring is made up of ceramic, a clay-containing substance. You are going to usually hear these tiles being referred to as non-porcelain or porcelain which refers to variations in makeup.

Generally, porcelain tiles are more durable and denser than non-porcelain. These tiles come in a lot of variations subject to the manufacturing process. Natural stone tiles are another notable kind of tile flooring. Types of quarried stone comprise of—but aren’t limited to— marble, granite, and slate, each with their own particular attributes and look. Natural stone tiles are far more costly than ceramic ones.

Pros of Tile Flooring

Enduring and durable: When tile flooring is installed properly, high-quality tiles can offer an everlasting look for a home. With correct upkeep, tiles are adequately resistant to permanent damage and can easily last over two decades. A classification system—from Class 1 to Class 5—is used to help establish what tile is appropriate for your home. Class 5 is the most lasting kind of tile, however, for a home with normal foot traffic, Class 3 or 4 should be more than enough.

Water-resistant: Tile flooring is perfect for kitchens, bathrooms, and mud rooms, because the sealed tile is resistant to water. Tiles are placed into classifications based on how much water they soak up, so find tiles that are classified as semi-glass-like and glass-like. Don’t forget that tiles and grout are not water resistant. Your tile floor is going to need to be well kept for optimal water resistance.

Low maintenance: Tile flooring is very easily maintained on a daily basis, with only a light cleaning required.

Cons of Tile Flooring

Costly: Compared to other kinds of flooring such as laminate, tile—particularly high-quality or natural stone tile—is costly to buy and have installed.

Grout problems: Grout between tiles is required to be strongly maintained, particularly in high-traffic areas. Grout is cement-based, meaning it is additionally porous and can absorb dirt and moisture. Staining, disintegrating grout, and mold are all problems to watch out for. These could impact the appearance and strength of a floor, but routinely cleaning and re-sealing grout is going to keep major issues at bay.

Can be unpleasant underfoot: Tile floors are known for cooling down throughout the winter months, so anticipate for some cold feet once the weather begins to get colder. Having radiant heating installed is an innovator when you want to keep your tile floors warm and don’t enjoy the feeling of cold toes. This can be a costly add-on, so bolster your pockets.

Maintenance and Care

Provided that tile floors are installed properly and correctly sealed, cleaning and care stays easy. Using a moist cloth and a soft broom to clean up instant spills and dirt, and then adhere to a weekly vacuum or sweeper. Plan a deep clean every 2 to 3 months and make sure to clean the grout. Tiles, and any sealant or finish utilized, can be damaged by abrasives or chemical cleaning products such as bleach and ammonia. Stay away from using these products whenever you can.

If you notice grout that is crumbling or spot a buckling or broken tile, repair or replace the area sooner than later. Grout and tile that has been damaged can, when left unchecked, end up impacting the entire whole. Re-sealing your grout routinely is vital when you want to proactively avoid most issues. For high-traffic or highly used areas such as showers or mud rooms, strive to re-seal the grout at least annually. Doing this is going to mean you’ll only have to replace the grout completely every fifteen years or so.

For extra life span adhere to normal floor-care methods: lay rugs and mats down in traffic high areas, utilize furniture pads and trim your pet’s claws or nails frequently.

Keep reading to learn about Travertine tile flooring, including some Travertine pros and cons to think about. If you’re ready for a new home flooring makeover, travertine tile can give your home a brilliant new look!

Travertine is a natural kind of stone, for example, the marble in your bathroom or the granite in your kitchen. Travertine is a sedimentary stone kind of limestone formed from mineral deposits made by natural springs. Giving travertine a unique and remarkable appearance, seen in its exceptional swirls.

Like any other kind of flooring, Travertine tile has a blend of qualities that make it perfect for some settings, but potentially unfitting for others. If you’ve been contemplating about upgrading your floors, below are some of the pros and cons to think about when determining whether or not travertine is a nice fit for your home:

The Pros of Travertine

Beauty: It’s unheard of to deny travertine floors’ luxurious, classical appearance.

Durability: With careful maintenance and treatment, Travertine safeguards against cracking and scratching, making it ideal for homes with children and pets.

Value: Travertine floors are an affordable option compared to other high-end stones like granite or marble. Installing travertine flooring can also increase your home’s value.

Non-Slip: Travertine flooring is naturally anti-slip, making it perfect for moisture-prone areas like kitchens and bathrooms.

Versatility: Travertine tiles are easily cut and shaped, allowing you to custom design how you would like it laid out and allows the tiles to fit into smaller areas.

The Cons of Travertine

Maintenance: This type of tile flooring is required to be sealed throughout installation, then re-sealed every 3 to 5 years to keep it resistant to moisture and stains. It’s a good idea to leave this sealing up to a flooring professional for the best outcome.

Softness: Because travertine is a kind of stone, it feels firmer than other flooring tiles. It also weighs more than other kinds of natural stones.

Temperature: Such as other natural stone tiles, travertine has a tendency of staying cooler. While this is perfect for individuals that live in warmer areas, this might be a big disadvantage for those in cooler climates.

Sensitivity: While travertine is lasting, it is very responsive to acidic substances such as juice, vinegar, coffee, and alcohol. When spilled, acidic liquids can potentially leave a stain because they react to calcium carbonate in travertine.

If comfort, warmth, and ease of maintenance are significant priorities for you, travertine might not be the ideal flooring material for using in your flooring redesign project. Nevertheless, travertine could be the perfect option if you like the sound of a trendy, damage-resistant material that is going to enhance both the beauty and financial value of your home. This post is here to help you make the correct decision based on your style priorities, lifestyle requirements, and remodeling budget.

If you want to make sure that your floors last long and preserve their sealants, then use our Professional Neutral Tile and Grout Cleaner.

How Much Does It Cost To Clean And Seal Grout?

The average cleaning and grout sealing cost is $480, with prices ranging from $360 to $600 in the US for 2021.

Why Should I Clean and Seal My Tile Grout?

What is the purpose of grout? Grout is a variety of mortar that is utilized to fill in the gaps between tiles on floors patios, walls, or countertops. Stone or ceramic is a strong material that takes on a lot of heavy use; nevertheless, grout’s irregular surface is ideal at trapping all the grime and dirt that naturally gathers between the tiles. After a couple of years, your tile will probably look as good as the day it was installed, but your grout tells a different story. Get your grimy, tarnished grout cleaned and sealed professionally in order to:

Get rid of mildew and mold

Deep clean debris, dirt, and old detergent residues trapped in between tile spaces

Prevention of further fading and staining

Restore its waterproofing qualities.

Doing so will keep your tile in great shape in the coming years.

Damaged Grout

While repairing damaged grout can seem like a tedious task, there are many tools and companies equipped to bring your flooring back to life. First, homeowners must understand the many types of grout used for tiles. The two major forms that grout comes in are sanded and unsanded. Smaller spaces between tile generally require unsanded grout, with larger areas calling for the sanded version. Before beginning any cleanup or repairs, make sure you know the type of grout used in your flooring, and measure the areas between the tiles for an accurate pour.

Repairing Grout Cracks

Filling these cracks will make your tile flooring look like it was newly installed. Don’t stress out about any cracks, by the way, as this material will require some minor repairs over time. The first step towards repairing any areas would be to mix the new grout in a small bowl or other container. Check for manufacturer’s instructions before going forward with this task, though. Next, spread the newly mixed group evenly over the desired areas. Do this in several different patterns, ensuring that you have completely covered the old grout with a smooth, new layering. Scrape any excess grout off the tiles as soon as possible, so that it does not stick anywhere other than where you meant to lay this material. Lastly, let the grout sit and dry for several minutes.

Step-by-step instructions for repairing grout cracks:

Mix new grout in a small bowl or container with water.

Spread the new grout in the desired areas, evenly.

Clear out any excess grout as quickly as possible.

Let the new grout sit and dry for several minutes.

Grout Cleaning

If no repairs are needed, but you’d still like to treat your grout to keep it in the best possible shape, there are many ways to clean the material. Simply brushing the grout with a tool like a toothbrush and hot water will help preserve the grout. A more effective way to clean the grout, though, is by spraying the material with warm water and vinegar. Let it sit for a few minutes, then brush the grout. Using a small amount of chlorine bleach can work, as well. Be careful with the bleach, though, as you do not want to overdo it with this substance, for obvious reasons.

Quick ways to clean grout:

Use warm water and brush the grout with a small tool.

Spray water/vinegar mix onto grout, then scrub.

Use a small amount of chlorine bleach on the material.

Clean the areas with a steam mop.
